Ageing, dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines… the very things we dread to see on our skin. We all want beautiful youthful skin that looks and feels smooth and supple. But as we journey along the path to everlasting beauty, we seem to forget the very basic and simple measures we can take to help ourselves stay healthy, on the inside, and out.
At Victoria’s Cosmedi Spas, we want to help our patients maintain smooth skin after treatment with proper diet and follow-up care.
According to experts, the secret lies in the plate, and that’s precisely why what you eat matters the most. In the context of good skin care, we believe you should approach topical skin care as you approach your diet, feeding your skin the best ingredients. With that said, below is list of foods that are not only good for your health, but that can help delay the ageing process and maintain a more youthful looking appearance. It’s important to note that following a healthy diet does not mean that you will miraculously lose years off your skin, however in terms of post treatment at Victoria’s Cosmedi Spa we do recommend that you follow a healthy diet and correct after-care instructions.
Leafy greens and vegies: Leafy greens are great sources of lutein and zeaxanthin. Studies have shown eating foods rich in these antioxidants can significantly reduce risk of age-related macular degeneration, as well as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Leafy green rich in Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) help to destroy the free radicals that cause damage in your body. Broccoli is also a great vegie, quercetin along with other foods including cranberries, onions, and apples are also loaded with powerful antioxidants, containing natural anti-inflammatory agent as well. Vegetables contain beta-carotene loaded with super-antioxidants which are good for your skin and eyes. Think carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins and squash.
Blueberries: Not only do these taste sensational, these tiny berries are powerhouses of nutrition. They are loaded with antioxidants, which stops premature ageing and help prevent cancer. Studies have confirmed that anthocyanins in blueberries help to combat oxidative stress, one of the main causes of ageing.
Raw, organic eggs: A fun fact for you – a single egg contains nine essential amino acids that are rich in proteins Vitamin D.
Aloe Vera: It is widely known that aloe vera contains anti-ageing properties. Medical research and scientific evidences shows Aloe Vera juice can help heal skin and reverse the signs of ageing caused by sun damage. Drinking Aloe Vera juice not only improves skin elasticity, promoting collagen, but reduces wrinkle depth. Another great item to add to the shopping list!
Garlic: While it may give you bad breath, nothing that a good brush of your teeth can’t fix, garlic contains a powerful punch of allium…what is allium? You guessed it – another antioxidant! Onions and shallots are also loaded with this free-radical fighter that is good for your skin and your immune system too.
You might be thinking, “Okay, great, apart from eating the right foods, is there an anti-wrinkle treatment that will also help slow down the signs of aging and to help my skin look more youthful?”
What is the first step towards treatment?
Upon consultation Dr Julie Ostberg will determine your suitability for treatment. She will also decide depending on several factors how much product will be needed to achieve acceptable results. During you consultation you will be given a quote as to how much your treatment will cost. Your treatment may be done on the same day or booked for a future time to suit.
After treatment we aim to make your face appear more relaxed, less tired and in turn help you feel younger. Our products work on the specific areas treated. We will not freeze your facial expressions; we soften them and work to where you want it to. Our products are often prescription only medicines and therefore can only be performed by fully trained medical personnel.
