Nothing beats the Christmas heat than cooling down the old fashioned way –sweating; but those who excessively sweat in the summer time can find solace in our hyperhidrosis treatments…

Sweating is a two way street. On one side, sweating helps our body cool down and makes us feel better in the summer heat but on the other side, excessive sweating can stain our clothes and (when mixed with bad bacteria) can cause us to exude a terrible body odour that can cause anyone social anxiety and discomfort. At Victoria’s Cosmedi Spa in Launceston, Tasmania we can help patients suffering from excessive sweating this summer with our hyperhidrosis treatment options.

What causes sweating (perspiration)?

Sweating is a completely natural occurrence that allows our bodies to cool down so that our muscles do not overheat, dissolved solids are detoxified and sodium is absorbed back into the body. There are over four million sweat glands in the human body that will function accordingly to ensure your body maintains a healthy temperature. Our ability to sweat is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system and problem areas such as the armpits, anus and genitals which are the major problem areas for sweating because the sweat glands produce protein and carbohydrates which cause staining and when mixed with bacteria, causes you to smell. Sweat itself does not smell the smell occurs only if microbial bacteria on the body are present.

Hyperhidrosis, the constant sweating companion…

Although sweating is normal constant sweat may not be caused by heat and high temperatures. Many people with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) will find that they have medical conditions that are causing the sweating and they will sweat even when the temperature is cold. It might be caused by an internal infection in some cases because the body is trying to expel the toxins from the body but when the body is not experiencing internal infections there may be other causes for the sweating. Hyperhidrosis sufferers might have triggers that cause bouts of uncontrollable sweating of the hands, feet, arm pits, anus and genital region. These can be medical conditions such as heart disease and lung disease, intake of medicine with known sweating side effects and psychological conditions such as anxiety. Hyperhidrosis can be treated with sweat gland surgery and medication but these are not without their side effects.

At Victoria’s Cosmedi Spa our hyperhidrosis treatments can help relieve your excessive sweating…

The body is sweating for a reason, if we did not have the ability to sweat it could cause our bodies to retain all of the toxins and prevent us from cooling down so it is a very important ability to have. However, at Victoria’s Cosmedi Spa in Launceston we understand that excessive sweating is simply ‘excessive’ and will cause any person discomfort. Our hyperhidrosis treatments help target sweating at the source via a series of special injections by our Dr Julie Ostberg that blocks the perspiration signals that emanate from the brain to your sweat glands. This procedure takes about ten minutes and is a popular treatment for those who are experiencing big moments such as weddings or parties over the summertime and do not want to ruin the moment by sweating profusely. This injection is essentially a muscle relaxant and has been used worldwide since 1989 to treat a variety of conditions and movement disorders that require a ‘numbing’ effect. Before prescribing any treatment our experienced professionals will discuss in full the pro’s and side effects (if applicable) with this type of treatment. Beat the sweat this Christmas with our hyperhidrosis treatment this summer.
