Tattoo Laser Removal FAQs

  1. What is Enlighten?

Introduced in 2014 and improved sin 2018 enlighten is the most advanced laser system for the proven and predictable removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions.

  1. How does Enlighten tattoo removal differ from other laser tattoo removal options?

Enlighten features extremely short and high power laser pulses which efficiently and quickly break down the ink particles in tattoos. A picosecond is one-trillionth of a second and is 1,000 times shorter than the nanosecond pulses used in existing lasers for tattoo removal. Picosecond pulses have been shown to remove tattoos more completely and in fewer treatment sessions than traditional laser used historically in the past.

  1. How many Treatment Sessions are required?

The total number of treatments vary depending on composition, depth and the colour of the ink, as well as the size of the tattoo. You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions and your provider can give you a better idea of the total number of treatments needed during your consultation and once your treatments begin.

  1. Why are multiple treatments required?

Tattoo ink is deposited deep in the skin. In order to reach all of the ink in the skin, multiple treatment sessions are needed for clearance. Depth size and colour of the tattoo also impact the number of treatments needed.

  1. Will the tattoo completely disappear?

In many cases, yes. However it is very important to know that some ink colours are more difficult to clear than others. With enlightens three wavelengths we are able to remove most colours except white. Consult with your enlighten provider to discuss further.

  1. Is the procedure painful?

Patients compare the procedure to a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Topical and/or chilling may be required to help with any discomfort.

  1. Are there any side effects following treatment?

Most patients experience redness, swelling, light crusting and some blistering following treatment. These side effects are temporary.

  1. How long will I need to wait to removal your new tattoo?

Sometimes realising your tattoo was a mistake doesn’t take years. For safe tattoo removal it is advised that you wait until your tattoo has healed before attempting to remove it. This may take up to six weeks.

  1. Can tattoo removal can work on all skin types?

The effect tattoo removal has on your skin does not relate to your complexion or skin type but has more to do with the type of tattoo you have, the ink used and where the tattoo was done. This also determines how many treatments you will need to remove the tattoo and also how much of the tattoo can be removed.

  1. First steps to starting tattoo removal?

Your first step for Tattoo Removal is to make a consultation with our registered nurse Anne. Anne is here on Mondays – Thursdays and a consultation takes only 30 minutes. This will include a test patch, quote for treatment on your tattoo and any other questions you may have. Call us to book your consultation so that your tattoo can be evaluated and removed.
