Some of the first visible signs of ageing are those tiny lines on the face that are accentuated with smiling and frowning. As time goes on, these lines become progressively deeper and new ones appear along with them. Without proper care, the lines become visible even when we are not using the muscles that create them – these are called static facial wrinkles.

Static Facial Wrinkles

Static facial wrinkles are best treated with products called dermal fillers. At Victoria’s Cosmedi Spa, we have a range of different types of treatments available, each with varying abilities and suitability.

Lip Enhancement

Dermal fillers are also effective at plumping and creating definition and fullness in the lips. For more information on lip enhancement using dermal fillers, visit our Lip Enhancement page.

Dermal Fillers FAQs

Dermal fillers are injected beneath the skin’s surface most commonly to add volume to and contour the face as well as to smooth wrinkles. They are usually made up of natural substances with a gel-like nature. Dermal fillers work by retaining water to specified areas which augment the skin, resulting in smoother appearance. Dermal fillers are not a one-off cure for the effects of ageing as they are biodegradable and therefore will require touch-ups. The length of which dermal fillers last depends on the on the type of dermal fillers used, on average they can last between 6-18 month depending on your body.

When your fillers stop being effective, they will break down and be absorbed into your skin tissue. Don’t worry, this is not dangerous. In fact, if you are unhappy with your fillers, a solution can be injected into your skin that will almost instantly make them ineffective.

You are never really too young to begin your anti-ageing regime. Though it is definitely time to begin once signs of sun damage or wrinkles arise anywhere on your skin. The first and most important step in your regime would be to purchase a really good sunscreen that has an SPF of 50 or higher to prevent sun damage, this should be applied at least twice daily. Staying hydrated is another important factor in any skin care regime.

Since every patient and dermatological journey is different, the life span of lip fillers will vary. Though, as a general duration, most patients can expect for their lip fillers to last from anywhere between 6-12 months. Once the procedure is complete you will be able to see immediate results. However, the best results are obtained once the fillers have settled in and merged with your facial tissue and appear more natural. If you are unhappy with your results your dermal fillers can be amended. Remember that lip fillers are not permanent and will change over time.

Yes. If you are not happy with your results, the filler can be dissolved with a second injection at any time or your procedure can be altered with more fillers.

If done correctly and with no contraindications dermal fillers should blend in with the skins natural tissue and should not be distinguishable by appearance or touch.

A single treatment can be seen instantly and can last up to 6 - 24 months depending on the thickness of the product and several biological factors of an individual client.
